Planning Agreements
“Our track record in quick response and turnaround times makes us the best choice for both developers and local authorities.” Gareth Williams Partner and Head of Commercial Property
Most significant planning applications now require a planning agreement to be in place in order for the planning permission to be viable. These planning agreements are often the last piece of the jigsaw. As speed is vital in development transactions, the pressure on local authorities to complete the planning process is intense.
We act on behalf of local authorities to draft planning agreements and ensure they are completed quickly. Our specialist team of lawyers focuses entirely on planning issues, enabling us to turn around all aspects of agreements, from initial instructions through to completion, within a matter of days.
Our clients include Southampton City Council. We were tasked to speed up their response time and remove them from the Deputy Prime Minister’s “hit list” of slow councils. We worked closely with the Council to revise the system and within 12 months, they were off the list.
We are also on the legal services panel for a group of 18 local authorities in the South of England. This experience is also very useful for our developer clients throughout the south. We are able to handle their planning agreements quickly and effectively because we understand the issues and pressures felt by both sides.
