Legal team stands by as asbestos related deaths continue to rise
Compensation specialists at leading law firm, Moore Blatch Resolve, are standing-by for a stark increase in the number of clients making asbestos-related claims. Latest figures show a steady annual rise in deaths from mesolthelioma, a cancer closely associated with exposure to asbestosis– but numbers are not set to peak for several years.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the national independent watchdog says that deaths from mesolthelioma in 2008 reached 2,249 compared with 153 in 1968 and are expected to peak around 2016.
Moore Blatch Resolve has a team of experts acting solely on behalf of victims and their families. Senior solicitor, Michael Osborne, heads the team: “Mesothelioma and other asbestos diseases are devastating diseases.” They change the lives of victims – and their families – forever,” he said.
“We are here to deal with cases as sympathetically as possible and we work hard to ensure minimum disruption to our clients’ lives at what we know is a difficult time.
According to the HSE, the most frequently recorded occupations on death certificates of men now dying from mesothelioma include carpenters and joiners; plumbers, heating and ventilating engineers; and electricians and electrical fitters.
“HSE figures estimate the number of people dying from these devastating diseases to peak over the next five years. Those exposed to asbestos may not yet be aware of its damaging effects. In fact, the latency period between exposure and the onset of a related cancer can be as much as 30 to 40 years. So, in many cases, it comes as a total shock to sufferers.”
The team of experts at Moore Blatch Resolve is on-hand at all times to give legal advice and support to those suffering from the disease.
“Often, compensation is due to victims of asbestos diseases but many sufferers don’t know where to start or who to contact,” said Michael. “I urge anyone who thinks they might have a claim to speak to the team here. We will do our best to help and we will do all we can to ensure the process is as smooth, straightforward and stress-free as it can possibly be.
“We recently concluded the claim of a client who was diagnosed with mesothelioma having been exposed to asbestos when working in shipyards in the North Eeast in the 1940s. His case was settled for its full value, a six figure sum, within seven months of us being instructed.”
