I am a solicitor in the firm’s private client department, working with a variety of clients, many of whom are trustees or personal representatives.
My clients want to know about their responsibilities as trustees, and that any legal issues that arise will be dealt with clearly and decisively.
I also work for people who would like to draft a will and/or set up a trust. They want to be sure that the arrangements that they wish to make for their loved ones will be put in place properly, and will also be tax efficient and practical to administer without any unforeseen side effects. Naturally they also want to make sure that their instructions are followed precisely.
When I act for clients that are personal representatives, I understand that in addition to the above skills I also need to use a different skill set as that person/ persons is recently bereaved and may therefore need additional support and understanding. I recognise that this is a very difficult time for the individuals concerned and that emotions will often be running high. My clients want to feel supported but that they can also trust me to get it right.
All of my clients expect a high level of personal service, and need to feel confident that we will protect their interests at all times. We give them the reassurance of knowing that they are supported by a team of experienced legal experts.
Acting for elderly clients also requires a “soft skills” set that is different to many other areas of law. In addition to my legal training I have also become a Dementia Friend and am receiving training on how to help people who are affected by grief.
