Successful provision of care and support for eight year old with cerebral palsy
Our Court of Protection team was instrumental in revolutionising the life of a family whose eldest son, aged eight, was diagnosed with cerebral palsy. The son had benefited from a successful medical negligence claim, and had been awarded a considerable sum in damages. We applied to the Court of Protection to appoint two individuals from Moore Blatch as deputies. This gave us the authority to be able to instruct specialists to recommend adaptations to the family home to accommodate the son's specific needs, as well as arranging the purchase of a specially adapted car to transport him. We appointed medical professionals such as physiotherapists, speech and language therapists to help improve the son's mobility and communication skills, and located a suitable school for the son to attend. We also put in place a 24 hour care package which allowed the parents to dedicate more time to their two other children.
