Looking after the affairs of an elderly lady whose family live abroad
Following the death of their uncle, we were approached by a family who lived outside the UK, to help deal with their aunt's affairs. Our Court of Protection team drafted lasting powers of attorney for the aunt, appointing two individuals at this firm, along with a family member, to be the aunt's attorneys. We then successfully dealt with the sale of a large property the aunt was living in, moving her to more suitable accommodation within walking distance of the town centre. We instructed a financial advisor to reorganise the aunt's investments, which resulted in an increase in income and a reduction in the aunt's outgoings. We also organised for a support worker to attend the aunt on a weekly basis to accompany her on visits to the supermarket, hospital appointments and co-ordinate any care needs or property maintenance required by the aunt. We remain in regular contact with the family to provide updates on their aunt's well being.
