SEND - children and young people
The Children and Families Act 2014 is responsible for significant changes to the way in which the needs of children and young people (0 – 25 years) with special education needs or disability are met not only in relation to education but, in addition, in relation to the provision of health and social care.
Education, health and care plans have been introduced replacing statements of special educational needs. EHC plans will describe not only educational provision but, in addition, required health and social care provision.
Personal budgets / direct payments have also been introduced enabling parents or carers of children and young people with SEN or disabilities to secure, in an appropriate case, a direct payment and / or personal budget to meet their education, health and social care needs.
We offer real expertise in this area and can support parents and carers in the entire assessment and planning process as a broker and advocate to ensure that all relevant health and social care needs are identified and provided for to include funding. We also offer support in relation to the complaints and appeals process to include mediation.
In addition our specialist Education law team offer a full range of client services designed to ensure appropriate educational provision is made and support challenging the decision making where necessary.
