Family friendly rights

Are you sure that you are receiving your full entitlement of family friendly rights?

The law in this area is fast changing and your employment handbooks may be outdated.

You may be feeling out of your depth when working out what you are entitled to in relation to maternity or paternity leave, or maybe you have questions on whether you and your partner can share leave or if you can apply for flexible working arrangements. We can assist you by analysing your situation and we are on hand to take the stress away by providing practical advice to ensure that you fully understand your rights.

Working parents have the following legal rights:

  • paid and unpaid maternity leave;

  • paid paternity leave;

  • paid and unpaid adoption leave;

  • to request flexible working hours;

  • unpaid parental leave for parents of children under five (18 if your child is disabled); and

  • unpaid time off to deal with unexpected problems with the care of dependants.

These rights apply to parents in same-sex as well as in opposite-sex relationships.
