Botulism is caused by toxins produced by clostridium botulinum bacteria, it is rare but can be extremely dangerous.
The toxins attack the nerves, brain and spinal cord and causes paralysis. If this goes untreated the paralysis will spread to the lungs, causing failure to breathe followed by death.
