Claims against police

There are many different reasons for taking legal action against the police, they may have breached your human rights while in their care, you may have sustained injuries as a resulted of being assaulted or you may have been falsely imprisoned.

Whatever the reason, Moore Blatch could help you seek compensation.

Financial settlements for claims against the police can fall into three different categories depending upon the circumstance, these are:

  • Basic damages – This is an amount of money intended to compensate the claimant;

  • Aggravated damages – Refers to a claimant experiencing wrongful conduct, including humiliation, distress or embarrassment (usually above £1000); and

  • Exemplary damages – This amount refers to punishment of the police officer concerned (usually above £5,500).
