Hair dyes and chemical treatments

It is now suspected that over half of the female population dye their hair, whether it’s carried out at home or at a salon, there can be risks involved.

Hair dyes contain powerful toxic chemicals, which can burn skin on the scalp, damage hair follicles, and in some case can cause more severe injuries.

It’s therefore important that salons only use professional, qualified staff to carry out these treatments. It’s also advised that if dying your hair at home that you follow the instructions carefully to avoid injury, however in both circumstance these can happen.

Injuries from hair dyes can include:

  • Burning sensations to the scalp

  • Red itchy rash on the scalp

  • Blisters

  • Oozing sores

  • Swelling

  • Hair loss
