I am a Partner in the Corporate and Commercial group specialising in commercial and technology law. For 25 years, I have advised clients on a wide range of complex commercial contracts and IT and IP issues. My initial experience as a litigator advising on large scale IT disputes has been very useful in avoiding the pitfalls that can befall technology contracts. For the bulk of my time, I am helping clients to negotiate and draft complex commercial/technology agreements and related areas such as data protection, social media and procurement issues. I am also closely involved with the protection and exploitation of intellectual property and clients include UK universities and retailers.
My clients range from tech start-ups to multinationals and public sector organisations. We always strive to be an extension of the client’s commercial or legal team and, indeed, for many clients, we act as their legal department. Accordingly, we need to be responsive and focus on key issues only and avoid point scoring against other lawyers.
I am increasingly called upon to act for foreign clients doing business in the UK or for advice under a contract governed by English law. Equally, I am able to assist UK clients who need foreign legal advice through good connections with foreign law firms, In particular, I am a member of the IT and IP Law Group Europe which is a specialist network of European lawyers specialising on IT and IP matters.
I am recognised as a legal expert in both the Legal 500 and Chambers Directories.
I have acquired particular experience in advising clients in the following sectors:
I have advised the following clients through my career:
Carillion, ASOS.com, EDS, ICL Fujitsu, Canon, G4S, Mouchel, Paperchase, University of Reading, University of South Wales, Mahindra Satyam, Atmel Corporation, and Intellectual Property Online.
