Partner and Head of Private Client
Area of Expertise
- Services for later life
- Wills, tax and trusts
- Lasting powers of attorney
- Adminstration of estates
I joined Moore Blatch in December 2016 as a partner and currently head the firm’s private client department.
I have almost 30 years’ experience as a private client lawyer, having worked with small specialist firms like Berkeley Law (now Irwin Mitchell) and WillcoxLewis, as well as large law firms (Eversheds, Shoosmiths and Maclay Murray & Spens) and I have been recognised in the Legal 500 and been named in the Citywealth Leaders’ List.
My clients include high net worth individuals and their families who would like to understand how to arrange their affairs to best protect and organise them for future generations which involves dealing with many different issues, including tax considerations. I have been fortunate to have acted for a wide range of clients including authors, actors, historians, fashion designers, magazine editors, producers and advised in relation to a number of landed estates. I deal with the administration of substantial estates which often involve an international element and advise on Wills, powers of attorney and all aspects of UK trusts, including their planning, creation, administration and winding-up.
The nature of private client work is such that it is extremely personal and I take time to understand my client’s circumstances and their wishes and concerns. The law in this area is often highly technical but it is essential that clients are given clear and practical advice and it is important to explain the options available to them to ensure that clients are comfortable that they have made informed decisions. They want to be reassured that their matters will be dealt with as quickly and efficiently as possible and that their interests will be protected.
The members of the private client team, who include a chartered tax adviser, have been selected for their broad and extensive knowledge and experience, so our clients have the peace of mind that they are dealing with leading tax and trust professionals. I have had several articles published in respected legal journals and national press and lectured and presented seminars on a number of private client topics (including Lasting Powers of Attorney, the reasons for making a Will, administering cross-border estates and writing trusts for life and pension policies).
Outside of work I play team tennis and enjoy reading, going to the theatre and spending time by the seaside at my home on the Isle of Wight.
